Chitwan National Park, Nepal's first national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the best places in Asia to see wildlife in its natural habitat.
What you might see
One-horned rhinos are the star attraction, along with wild elephants, gharial crocodiles, over 500 species of birds, and — for the very lucky — a Bengal tiger.
Safari activities
Most packages combine jeep safaris, guided jungle walks, and canoe trips along the Rapti River, each offering a different perspective on the park's ecosystem.
Tharu culture
The Tharu people, indigenous to the Chitwan lowlands, welcome visitors with traditional stick dances and village walks that round out the safari experience.
Plan for at least two to three days to get a full safari experience without feeling rushed.
